G.I. Bill Amendment Passes House; More Elected Officials Hate Veterans

More news on the Webb-Hagel G.I. Bill today: The House of Representatives passed the new G.I. Bill as an attachment to the emergency supplemental. However, the supplemental funding bill itself did not pass.

Here are the Congresspersons who you can add to your list of elected officials who hate Veterans:

Aderholt, Akin, Alexander, Bachmann, Bachus, Barrett (SC), Bartlett (MD), Barton (TX)Bean, Biggert, Bilbray, Bilirakis, Bishop (UT), Blackburn, Blunt, Boehner, Bonner, Boozman, Boren, Boustany, Brady (TX), Broun (GA), Brown (SC), Brown-Waite, Ginny, Buchanan, Burgess, Burton (IN), Calvert, Camp (MI), Cannon, Cantor, Carter, Chabot, Coble, Cole (OK), Conaway, Cubin, Culberson, Davis (KY), Davis, David, Davis, Tom, Deal (GA), Diaz-, Balart, L., Diaz-Balart, M., Donnelly, Doolittle, Drake, Dreier, Duncan, Ehlers, Ellsworth, Everett, Fallin, Feeney, Ferguson, Flake, Forbes, Foxx, Franks (AZ), Frelinghuysen, Gallegly, Garrett (NJ), Gingrey, Gohmert, Goode, Goodlatte, Granger, Graves, Hall (TX), Hastings (WA), Heller, Hensarling, Herger, Hobson, Hoekstra, Hunter, Inglis (SC), Issa, Johnson, Sam, Jordan, Keller, King (IA), Kingston, Kline (MN), Kuhl (NY), Lamborn, Lampson, Latham, Latta, Lewis (CA), Linder, Lucas, Lungren, Daniel E., Mahoney (FL), Manzullo, Marchant, Matheson, McCarthy (CA), McCaul (TX), McCotter, McCrery, McHenry, McKeon, McMorris Rodgers, Mica, Miller (FL), Miller, Gary, Moran (KS), Musgrave, Neugebauer, Nunes, Paul, Pearce, Pence, Peterson (PA), Pickering, Pitts, Poe, Price (GA), Pryce (OH), Putnam, Radanovich, Regula, Rehberg, Reichert, Reynolds, Rogers (AL), Rogers (KY), Rogers (MI), Rohrabacher, Roskam, Royce, Ryan (WI), Sali, Saxton, Scalise, Schmidt, Sensenbrenner, Sessions, Shadegg, Shimkus, Shuster,Simpson, Smith (NE), Smith (TX), Souder, Stearns, Sullivan, Tancredo, Terry, Thornberry, Tiahrt, Tiberi, Turner, Walberg, Walden (OR), Walsh (NY), Wamp, Weldon (FL), Weller, Westmoreland, Wilson (NM), Wilson (SC), Wittman (VA), Wolf, Young (FL)

All the Representatives listed voted today against fully funding a new G.I. Bill by refusing to support its addition to the supplemental.  The bill should come up for a new vote sometime next week.

In G.I. Bill news on the Senate side, Webb-Hagel was also added to the supplemental funding bill by the Senate Appropriations Committee.  Evidently, Senator Larry Craig couldn't find a wide enough stance to strip G.I. Bill language completely. Instead, he piggy backed with Senator Dianne Feinstein  on an immigration amendment that would create a process for undocumented immigrants to continue to work in the agricultural sector. Critics of the measure say it amounts to amnesty for illegals.  I'm not going to debate the merits of this legislation as this is not the appropriate forum. It does seem to me that Feinstein is trying to represent her state. I do, however, disagree with her vote in that it harms the passage chances of our new G.I. Bill.  I think we can all see what Craig is trying to do based on his previous comments.  This is nothing more than his attempt to cram a poison bill down the throat of Webb-Hagel.  The bill was also tacked on to the supplemental in Appropriations today.

If you are confused by all of this, don't worry. I am to.  If anyone who has intel on this notices an error in my description above,  let me know and I'll correct it.  In the interim, Brian McGough says this should explain the entire process if we have any questions:

Wolf's office will be getting a call... (0.00 / 0)

... tomorrow. Not like it will help, but I will call anyway.

I noticed congressman Chris Cannon (0.00 / 0)
my representative in Utah voted against this as well.  The last time I talked to his aid on the phone he told me how supportive Cannon was of the Utah National Guard.  I will be calling his office tomorrow.

New Taxes.... (0.00 / 0)
The DEMs want new Taxes to pay for the Supplemental
The GOPs say "Read my lips, no new taxes"

Same ole fight. DEMs don't have enough votes to over-ride a Bush veto.

GOP won't admit to a 'recession', partly relying on their 'funky' accounting of 'unemployment' figures. Extending unemployment benefits would validate the 'recession'.

The split on 'undocumented farm workers' does not follow party lines.

The GI Bill gets caught in the cross fire.

That's my take.

Maybe the Senate could get serious and deny Bush the confirmation of Petreaus to get the GI Bill passed. Just a thought. But then the House would have to pass it too. Seems like the states with the big Military bases and Ret. Mil could exert some major pressure.

I wrote Rep. Cannon's office this morning (0.00 / 0)
I contacted him in March and spoke with his legislative aid.  I also recently received a letter form him regarding his support for veterans education. I will give him a little time to respond to my letter this morning, then I'm organizing an assault.

Rep. Jim Matheson (D-UT) voted against it too! (0.00 / 0)
My congressman is alleged Democrat Jim Matheson.  Not for the first time, I sent him an e-mail to tell him there is an error clearly visible on his website.  Where it says: "Congressman Jim Matheson- Representing Utah's Second Congressional District."

Does Matheson think nobody is paying attention?  Even if that's true, why not vote the right way?  I don't pretend to understand Congress.

Yeah, I noticed Rep. Bob Bishop (D-UT) (0.00 / 0)
voted against it too.  Why does Utah hate our troops?
