Prominent Blogs Rallying around Clark, Scolding Media

While the media continues to forward McCain talking points to America about General Wesley Clark's recent remarks, prominent political blogs have begun to push back.  The following have each offered up a sturdy defense of Clark, showing that, if nothing else, the netroots will not be browbeaten by the McCain campaign--or by certain political "strategists"--on the topic of national defense:

Daily Kos
Talking Points Memo
MyDD

Jon Soltz has added his defense on The Huffington Post, and we have two pieces here on VetVoice.

This just hit FOX and Google:

After Clark Hit, McCain Plans "Truth Squad"

Moments from now, three prisonsers of war who endured as much and sometimes worse than Sen. John McCain while in Vietnamese captivity will appear on a conference call to announce they are part of an emerging "Truth Squad" to deal with any future attacks questioning McCain's fittness as commander-in-chief.

Let The Games Begin!!

And please loose the use of 'SwiftBoating',  re: my post to the right.

If the need arises where it can't be avoided as the attacks progress use 'sbvt', in small case for the littlemen these Vets were, with no explaination, let others figure it out.

Thanks!

McCain is teaming up with is none other than:

Bud Day, a fellow POW who was part of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth squad that had worked so hard to defame Sen. John Kerry's own Vietnam record.

Reagrding General Clark's remarks (4.00 / 2)
Service as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is only one of the roles of a president.  General Clark did not attack Senator McCain's ability to be president, he simply pointed out that his military service does not inherently qualify him for that role.

"No U.S. soldier ever dies in vain because they're carrying out the missions of their commander in chief. And we honor all the service that they've provided." - Barack Obama

McCains Record and being "Polite" (0.00 / 0)
Here is the problem. People rightly feel "sorry" for McCain because he was a POW, so they cut him a lot of slack. It is pity, nothing more.

Once you remove the pity and look at the mans military record, he should never have been promoted to O-6. There were fellow Officers that were not promoted because McCain was promoted and that is a cold hard fact. There were officers that were passed over that did not have glaring five year holes in their service record. There were aviators passed over that had longer flying hours because they were not POWs.

If John McCain wants to run on his record as a POW, more power to him. He showed tremendous courage as a POW. Personally, I do not think that qualifies him to be president but if it gets votes, so be it.

But if John McCain wants to run on his pure military record, absent the five years he was not gaining the executive level experience his peer group was getting, I have to say that the record speaks for itself and it is probably "center of mass" to use US Army Officer Evaluation terms.

Personally as an individual that is still serving, I would prefer a President who does not have military experience. I do not want a President who thinks they know it all. I want a President who will listen carefully to those of us in uniform. McCain will likely brush us off as he thinks he knows everything.

Did someone say Rick Sanchez? hahahaha. (4.00 / 1)
In the broadcast, Bob Schieffer suggested that Barack is unqualified because he "didn't ride in an airplane and get shot down" to which Clark correctly retorts- I don't think that's qualification to be president. "Really?" Schieffer responds, incredulously. Yes, really, Mr. Schieffer.

Clicked over to the DD post and apparently Rick Sanchez is campaigning for McCain (!) and claimed Obama was trying to "swiftboat" McCain. That's like shooting yourself in the foot and trying to win a hopscotch contest. In October, Sanchez said Iraq was a "nightmare with no end in sight". I'm sure that will get Americans stoked for 100 more years. Also he claimed the Iraq war plan was catastrophically flawed and incompetently executed (his words). Uh, sir, weren't you in charge, or something?

By the media's logic, I guess we're all qualified for at least a cabinet position. (0.00 / 0)
With American jobs going overseas, home values plummeting, and our nation's educational and health care programs under-funded, we need a national strategy focused on resolving our problems both home and abroad.  While John McCain's Veteran and POW status makes him a hero to me and many others, his background in no way qualifies him to tackle the challenges facing our country.
