The Most Important Story So Far This Month

This evening on ABC's nightly national news broadcast, former Presidential candidate and 2004 Vice Presidential Nominee John Edwards admitted to having an extramarital affair with a campaign videographer for a brief period in 2006.

What's the worst aspect of this story? More after the fold.

Richard Allen Smith :: The Most Important Story So Far This Month
The worst part of this story is that for the past several weeks, this as swirled around the news media. Beginning in the highly reputable National Enquirer, rolling through North Carolina's Charlotte Observer, making a stop at Fox News, and finally landing on ABC. Every pundit who had not yet opined on this story will tonight.

The world is shocked and dismayed.  Talking heads will be spinning for weeks to come.

And no one seems to give a shit that 17 Soldiers have died this month in a war of choice in Iraq, and a war of neglect in Afghanistan. And that's the most important story so far this month.

I join you in your anger, disgust and dismay.....h/t. (4.00 / 5)

I'ts the best news corporate can buy! (4.00 / 2)
Between this story and the Matthew McConaughey placenta spectacular, I thank God I've lived long enough to remember what journalism used to be.  Including the status of our servicemen and women, there are so many issues to be tackled and this...is the best that media can come up with? I'm too flustered to read more than the headlines of this swill.  Specifically gave up on network television news 2 years ago...is print next?

I think it is a sad day in hell! (4.00 / 1)
I have heard enough already! I also am very happy that I'm old enough to remember what real journalism and TV news anchors were really made of. I get more news from you guys than any where else! Thanks!

I have NOT heard a thing about our Soldiers dying, I read the f**cking count killed on the ticker, it burns my ass up!

...I wouldn't know a damn thing. Don't let the corporate media whores get their hooks in it too, please God!

While I agree that the Edwards story doesn't deserve the front page... (0.00 / 0)
...perhaps the Edwards story would be fair game if the media noted that McCain engaged in quite similar conduct while married to his first wife.  If this disqualifies Edwards, the story is newsworthy as a tacit disqualification of McCain...

No (4.00 / 1)
It doesnt fucking matter, and neither does the McCain story. News outlets should drop it, and start being legitimate journalists.

I'm on twitter.

We may very well be teetering on the edge of World War III and, personally, I could give a fat rat's ass who Edwards (or McCain) has been poking. Adolescent news for adults stuck in adolescence.

Someone I know and I know some of you probably (0.00 / 0)
know had a great idea:  a war casualty betting pool.

People would actually buy into it every month for each war and whoever predicted the exact number of wounded and killed, would win the pot.

And he was right!  People would be sitting on the edge of their seats wanting the daily tallies of wounded and KIA.  And they would want to know whether some wounded made it or not, etc.  Americans would actually want to know about our troops being hurt because it WOULD impact them finally!  The interest and demand would return and the media would have to cover it.

How sad is it that this is the only way we can come up with some way of getting Americans to care about other Americans dying in Iraq or Afghanistan?
