Nutjob Chuck Norris Says He's Done Two Tours in Iraq

Chuck Norris is now beginning to confuse himself with his characters on TV.  Not content to confine his ramblings to creationism or the deviancy of homosexuality, the Walker, Texas Ranger star now says he's "done two tours" in Iraq.

Oddly enough, Norris seems to be under the impression that having visited the troops twice in Iraq has somehow endowed him with a  certain moral authority he can now wield against "liberals."  After listening to his nearly unhinged, whackjob rant on Larry King Live last night, I came away with the feeling that Missing in Action guy felt as though he had actually sacrificed for his country by going over there; that having talked to a few "commanders," he was now a military expert.

It's weird, but a lot of people think that way, I guess.  Luckily, Arianna Huffington was around to straighten him out:

LARRY KING: The question about the money spent on Iraq was a fair question, Chuck.  Isn't that a lot of money?

CHUCK NORRIS: It's a lot of money, but we're spending a lot of money everywhere.  We're spending a lot of money on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and we're spending a lot of money that we'll probably winnd up paying off the car dealers, the cars, and the airlines.  I mean, we're bailing everybody out.  And, uh, we can debate the question of whether we should be in Iraq or not, but we are there and we gotta take care of the situation there.  I've been there twice, Arianna.  I've done two tours over there.  I know what's going on over there.  You haven't been there.

ARIANNA HUFFINGTON:  This is really the most absurd response.  Because the fact that you've been to Iraq, I'm sorry to say, makes no difference compared to the fact that-

NORRIS:  Yeah, it does.  I've talked to the troops over there.

HUFFINGTON: If the President. . .

NORRIS: I've talked to the troops. . .

HUFFINGTON: . . .and John McCain and Sarah Palin. . .

NORRIS: . . .and they believe that we should stay there until we finish the job.  You know, you would pull tail and run.

HUFFINGTON: You know there are many, many people in the military. . .

NORRIS: Yeah, that's your liberal view, Arianna.  You're so liberal.

HUFFINGTON: Let me just finish the sentence.  There are many people in the military who are deeply concerned about what's happening to our military.  We are destroying our military.  Suicides rates. . .

NORRIS: Not the military people I've talked to.  I've talked to all the military commanders over there and they don't feel that way, Arianna.

HUFFINGTON: If I were a member of the John McCain campaign, I would accuse you of sexism right now because you keep interrupting me.

NORRIS: Why?  I'm backing Sarah Palin so I'm sexist?

HUFFINGTON: Let me just finish one sentence.  What's happening to the American military is something all of us need to be concerned about, as is the fact that we are absolutely spending trillions of dollars.

Guys like Chuck Norris are more despised by the troops than any other type of person.  It's because posers like Norris try to claim something they haven't earned.  He attempts to browbeat others into believing that they don't "understand" combat the way he does, because he's "been there."  He thinks he speaks for the troops.  But Norris has never "been there," and he will never go there.

UPDATE: I've edited out a few sentences that made reference to Norris' own lack of military service.  He served in the peacetime Air Force as a policeman from 1958-1962.

Clowns Like This........... (4.00 / 3)
Remind me of the Higher Ranking Officers, most in the Pacific regions, who weren't serving In-Country 'Nam, but they would come in and visit, or at least that's what they called it.

What they were doing was coming in to Party, bringing 'round eye's', young ladies, from places such as Hawaii, a fly through on the way to Vietnam on the southern route.

They'd stay at least a couple of days. Word was if they were In-Country for over 48hrs. they received that months Combat Pay, also if there happened to be some major operation where ribbons were awarded for they got those as well, never coming close to the operations, hell never leaving the compounds.

I know about the Navy side of that because i had to setup and assign extra security, on a monthly bases, for those at our compound, didn't care about the extra pay rumor or ribbons till I thought about them after I left for discharge.

Everyone apparently likes to Up Stage the Grunt, including Fly Boys!

They also like to Slander the Grunt, like if you happen to be a commander of a small boat riding the rivers, perfect targets for 'charlie'!!!

Norris' "tours" are no different than any other VIP (4.00 / 3)
Norris can claim that he served two "tours" in Iraq all he wants but most everyone with any common sense knows otherwise.  The U.S. military and other agencies would have provided detailed security rings prior to Norris' arrival and would have left them in place around him until well after he left Iraq.  Norris, as a celebrity is a high value target so the military would have taken no chances with his security.  Norris saw nothing and did not experience any like the troops experience on a day to day basis during his short stay and that you can count on.  In fact, the troops and/or Iraqis he did meet with were likely cleared well in advance.  Everything he saw and did was carefully orchestrated.  Norris' fictitious stories about Iraq are no different than the fictitious heroes he plays on television.

this way...we're walking, we're walking.... (4.00 / 2)
So then Lewis Black served a couple tours in Iraq for the USO..There's a difference between a Tour of Duty and a Guided Tour.
Chuck's just an Ugly American Tourist.

I love that he thinks (4.00 / 3)
that supporting Palin means he can't be sexist.  It's kinda like having a black friend and claiming you aren't racist.

What a d*ckweed.

Chuck Norris did not create the Earth in 7 days... (4.00 / 3)
toughest thing he probably had to deal with was a few drunks as an MP and checking ID at the gate.

I watched LKL for a few minutes and (4.00 / 2)
caught a part of Norris' demented rant...selling his book. He sent me surfing.

Think he's been hit in the head too many times doing his stunts for the camera.

Oh My God! (4.00 / 1)
Couldnt agree more with Arianna, that has got to be one of the most absurd statements ever! How does this guy get to say that?

PJ O'Brien

Send him a medal (4.00 / 3)
Someone should go to clothing sales, buy one of the service medals applicable for Iraq, send it to him and I guarantee he would be proud of it and display it at his office!!

No shame in admitting the truth (4.00 / 1)
Sadly, the political right believes that it is shameful to admit when the Army has problems.

They consider it a weakness to talk about cannibalizing other units for equipment and so on and so on.

USO? (4.00 / 1)

USO tours=Combat Experience?

According to Norris's logic (4.00 / 4)
Robin Williams has more "tours" than any of us.  He's visited troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and all over.  Robin Williams must be a hardened veteran with a thousand-yard stare by now.  If visiting and talking to troops is all that is required, there are a ton of celebrities with "combat experience".

Vietnam Vet Too (4.00 / 2)
You forgot that Robin Williams was in the movie "Good Morning Vietnam" so that makes him a Vietnam Vet Too!

This really is getting too much, I do need a drink.

Remember O'Reallies Comment (4.00 / 1)
Sometime back, something to do with having been in and seen combat because he was shot at somewhere in Latin America.

I'm sure there's a vid someplace, but my thought at the time was, if he even has traveled there, he was near some Drug shootout probably miles away.
