Sarah Palin Links Iraq to 9/11

Reporters have been clamoring for weeks to get a shot at asking Sarah Palin questions in an unstructured setting.  When they finally got the opportunity this morning, Palin again demonstrated why the McCain campaign has striven to keep her hidden away.  Because during her brief press appearance today, presumably to the horror of the campaign, the Alaska governor wasted no time in linking Iraq to 9/11:

AP REPORTER: Do you think that our presence in Iraq and Afghanistan--our continued military presence there--is inflaming Islamic extremists?

SARAH PALIN: I think our presence in Iraq and in Afghanistan will lead to further security of our nation.  Again, because the mission is to take the fight over there, do not let them come over here and attempt again what they accomplished here.  And that was some destruction.  Terrible destruction on that day.  But, since September 11th, Americans uniting and rebuilding and committing to never letting that happen again.

Sarah Palin thinks she's foreign policy-qualified because she lives close to Russia.  And now we know that she thinks Saddam did 9/11.  At least she's up front about it.

Palin needs to do a lot more studying (0.00 / 0)
because she is way behind on the current GOP talking points.  The only one still using that long debunked "Saddam did 9/11" theory seems to be Dick Cheney and even he isn't using it much these days.

As a tactical intelligence officer… (4.00 / 3)
...I was expected to 'know the enemy.' We packaged disparate bits of information-collected from the patrol level up to, and including, those sent down and obtained using national assets-formulating a picture that combatant commanders at brigade, battalion and company levels would use to complete the picture of the forces their elements faced in the field.

And yet, I would apparently ultimately be answerable to someone who would purport to be ready to step into the role of Commander in Chief of the US armed forces, yet clearly cannot-years later-actually identify the enemy in any reasonable way. The single individual with Presidential package release authority over nuclear weapons.

Seriously: how terrifying is it that Governor Palin is one election victory and one succession step away?

The pool of "geniuses" w/me here in JOUR363 and I can't find any direct correlation in Palin's remarks about Iraq and 9-11.  Her overused remark about "keeping the fight there" in order to "prevent more destruction here" doesn't establish the link, unless one wants to infer one, on purpose.  My point?  It's wrong to accuse someone of saying something they didn't say directly.

But again, I like Biden more than Palin, and Biden railed about attacking Iraq way back to 1998.  It's everywhere, if you want to search it out.  He was right about containing Hussein and other "terrorists" back then and he's right that we didn't do it right since then.  My point, again: the assault team here would not dare to post Biden's historically aggressive stance against Iraq, its WMDs (Yes!), and other jewels.  Go figure...

From the WashingtonPost (4.00 / 1)
FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska, Sept. 11 -- Gov. Sarah Palin linked the war in Iraq with the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, telling an Iraq-bound brigade of soldiers that included her son that they would "defend the innocent from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the death of thousands of Americans."

Of course, I'm sure she meant something totally different than what she said, and the WashingtonPost is probably a "leftist, socialist, Marxist" paper that is funded by George Soros.

Past aggressive remarks are simply remarks (4.00 / 1)
and they are made all the time by politicians and nations.  Heck, John McCain has built his entire campaign around doing just that.  The difference though is the Bush Administration chose to take action in Iraq and has left the U.S. with egg on its face because of it.  If you recall, it was Bush and no one else who got up in from of the nation and said: "On my orders, coalition forces have begun striking selected targets of military importance to undermine Saddam Hussein's ability to wage war." Palin's comment like the one in the video just revives that and drives the credibility of McCain and the Bush Administration down even further.

Here is more (0.00 / 0)
Bush acknowledged on September 17, 2003, that, "We have no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the 11 September attacks."

Then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld agreed. At a Pentagon briefing on the same day Bush spoke, Rumsfeld was asked if Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein or those around him were personally involved in the September 11 attacks. Rumsfeld replied, "I've not seen any indication that would lead me to believe that I could say that."

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who was serving then as White House National Security Adviser, went even further. In an ABC "Nightline" interview, she insisted that, "We have never claimed that Saddam Hussein had either direction or control of 9/11."

Yet, on the seventh anniversary of attacks on New York and Washington that were never legitimately linked to Saddam Hussein or Iraq, Sarah Palin was telling soldiers headed for Iraq that they are part of "the broad conflict that began seven years ago today."

Palin also told the troops: "America can never go back to that false sense of security that came before September 11, 2001."

Note to Sarah, Operation Iraqi Freedom began 5 years ago, not seven.

From ABCnews:

"You'll be there in service to the same cause of freedom from tyranny and from violence," Palin said. "You'll be there to defend the innocent from enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the deaths of thousands of Americans. You'll be there because American can never go back to that false sense of security that came before September 11, 2001."

Of course she was probably talking about something completely different from Iraq, while addressing soldiers who were deploying to Iraq.  I'm sure that ABC, being owned by the vast liberal conspiracy, just twisted her words around when they quoted her.

Neither Iraq nor Iraqis committed the 9/11 crimes.

This woman is nothing more than a neocon mouthpiece.

A response from another Iraq veteran about how service and sacrifice should not be used to muzzle criticism of the war. It's patriotic to make sure we're properly employing our troops.

Iraq is costing us all an arm and a leg.... (0.00 / 0)
damn that last reveal was telling...

This is why I am still proud of America, still support our troops and vets. Not like  the bloviating armchair warriors who watch the Military channel and like to see stuff blown up from the safety of their living rooms.

to those who have served and given up their time and personally sacrificed and have the courage to speak the truth from experience, I salute you.

someone should inform Ms. Palin, along with the rest of the political gang, both Republican and Democrat, that everytime most Americans fill up at the gas pump, they are giving AQ money to kill their kids.

But Fred.... (0.00 / 0)
How can I drive to the Obama rally without more gas?  Had to shoot the old horse yesterday.  :-))
