NRCC Crosses the Line in New Ad Against Madia

VoteVets candidate Ashwin Madia is involved in one of the most hotly contested races in the country in the third district of Minnesota. Ashwin is a veteran of the Marine Corps, the Iraq war, and like myself, the JAG corps.

An inevitable consequence of a close race is negative ads.  It's politics, and it happens.  But the NRCC has gone too far on behalf of Ashwin's opponent:

A Republican attack ad invites viewers to "meet the real Ashwin Madia," but the still photos featured in the spot present a noticeably darker version of the 3rd District DFL congressional candidate.

"At least three of the photos of Madia were obviously darkened, using one method or another," public affairs and media consultant Dean Alger told KARE 11.

Here is a look at the pictures, alongside the original, unaltered images:

The NRCC's statement:

Reached by phone in Washington Wednesday, NRCC spokesman Ken Spain replayed the ad on YouTube and told KARE, "We stand by the ad."

Ashwin's Campaign's statement:

"It's just deplorable that the national Republicans have chosen to sink to this level," Rosenberg said, "I've seen negative campaigns but nothing as deplorable as, or disgusting as this advertisement."

Tell the NRCC and Eric Paulsen that you won't stand for these disgusting and dishonorable attacks by dropping Ashwin some coin here.

UPDATE: Here is a little background on why this sort of thing is unacceptable:

Any tactic to bring on the Fear and it's mostly targeted towards those that No Matter What still support the extremely dangerous policies of the NEO's and they hope to grab as many of the racists as they possibly can!

Yet none of these voters, mostly the 'chickenhawk' variety bring into their minds that by these policies we have destroyed any sense of National Security and Raised the Levels of Hatreds, thus enemies, not only of our Government but Us!!

I caught an interview yesterday with some students on a florida college campus, one young lady gave her reasons for supporting McCain and that was 'National Security' and the problems perceived in the World, and she was almost livid about her thoughts. I sat there wondering if she's so concerned about 'National Security', oh and also Victory in Iraq, why is she in School and Not In The Military, being sent over and over................, into these theaters!!!

Hoping that this has a negative impact like the one Rep. Michele Bachman (4.00 / 1)
experienced with her "Joe McCarthy" statements on Hardball.

I got an e-mail of smear/fear about the communist, ARAB, terrorist Obama on Sunday that originated with a cousin of a cousin who lives in the White burbs of Minneapolis. I'm still trying to get over it while trying to decide whether to reply. The really sad thing is that the cousin that forwarded it to me is really, really a good person. Not only did I receive the e-mail, I suddenly got an e-mail from the McCain campaign with his 'up-dates'. Thank Gawd, it had a delete functions and place to leave a comment.

The good news is: Obama is leading 54-39 in MN. The bad news is that these ads are aimed at the 7 undecided.

Rock the Vote...take someone to the polls with you. Its a right that you fought for.

If your in NC stand up for Kay Hagan. Despite the Sen. Dole "godless" ad, Kay is an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, and has gone on Missions with her Church.

That Dole Ad (0.00 / 0)
Is Royally Disgusting and I'll guarantee they sat on it for awhile, to early and the Comeback to Dole would have been Tremendous, as it is, except for those like Dole, who use religion as a prop, I'll bet it actually has the reverse effect than what Dole wanted!

As it is I already Voted so a quick short LTE to the Observer is a goin out!!

Brought a Defamation suit against Dole about the Ad, it was announced as it was coming in on the local news, haven't seen a writeup yet but that should be following soon. This just came down a short while ago.

Hagan files defamation suit against Dole for TV ad

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Kay Hagan filed a lawsuit Thursday against rival Elizabeth Dole, accusing the Republican incumbent of defamation and libel for running a television ad that questions Hagan's ties to an atheist political group.
