VoteVets Election Run-Down

Okay, so we did pretty well with our endorsed veteran candidates.  For new seats, the following candidates won:

John Boccieri (OH-16)
Gary Peters (MI-9)
Eric Massa (NY-29)
Walt Minnick (ID-1)

And yet to be decided are still two other races:

Jim Martin (GA-SEN)
Charlie Brown (CA-4)

I'll have an update on Charlie's race as soon as we know something.  For Jim Martin, he's now set to face Senator Saxby Chambliss in a Georgia runoff next month.

As for our previously-endorsed candidates, like we'd hoped, those we first endorsed in 2006 also held on to their respective seats:

Congressman Patrick Murphy (PA-8)
Congressman Joe Sestak (PA-7)
Congressman Chris Carney (PA-10)
Congressman Tim Walz (MN-1)

And despite the fact that groups of right-wing radicals were gunning for his seat, Vietnam veteran and Congressman John Murtha (PA-12) also successfully defended his seat.

For our Emerging Leaders, we also had a few big wins in State House races around the country.  First off, the following four Iraq and Afghanistan veterans managed to successfully defend their state seats:

Allen Vaught (TX/HD-107)
Hank Naughton (MA/HD-12)
McKinley Bailey (IA/HD-9)
Joe Rice (CO/HD-38)

It was absolutely critical for Allen, McKinley, and Joe to hold their seats since they were freshmen representatives.  Fortunately, they did--handily.  On top of that, we also picked up three new seats in two state legislatures with three Iraq veterans:

Jason Kander (MO/HD-44)
Stephen Webber (MO/HD-23)
Alex Cornell du Houx (ME/HD-66)

Some of you might remember Jason and Stephen as the two candidates we supported during their primaries over the summer.  They won then, and then ran unopposed yesterday--officially sealing the deal last night.  As for Alex, he managed to pull off a 12 percentage point victory in Brunswick last night, becoming one of Maine's newest State Representatives.

So a hearty round of applause for the candidates above.  And while we lost some heartbreakers last night, I have a feeling that some of our endorsed candidates who didn't win will be back next cycle.  All in all, we did well.

And lastly, I'd be remiss if I didn't thank all of you for not only being a part of this site, but for spreading the word on each of these candidates.  You all played a role in making this happen.

Just heard Howard Dean on Hardball saying that the DEMs are (0.00 / 0)
going to rally to support Martin in the run-off.

Hopefully, there are some 'southern' volunteers from the Obama pool that will show up to pound the ground.

Noriega's defeat, but, if he'll go for it again, I'll pledge my support.

Is it too early (4.00 / 1)
to start a "Draft Ashwin '10" movement?

I want a JAG, other than Lindsey Graham, on the Hill.

I'm on twitter.

How about Joe Biden's son getting his 'open' seat in the Senate? (0.00 / 0)

Perfect choice. (0.00 / 0)
They would pull him immediately out of Iraq foing a re-assignemnt to the standby reserve.

He could still get promoted and good years for retirement

There is the thing about nepotism but if it would go over well in DE, why not.
