17th Century Heavyweights Clash on the High Seas

Like Alien vs. Predator or Donald Trump vs. Rosie, this is something that should really be on pay-per-view:

MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- A radical Islamic group in Somalia said Friday it will fight the pirates holding a Saudi supertanker loaded with $100 million worth of crude oil.

What's better than Godzilla vs. Mothra?  Obviously, a Taliban-like band of extremists battling it out on the high seas with a bunch of pirates.

The BBC has more, reporting that the Islamists have arrived on the scene and are ready to get it on.  Now, if Blackwater could just hurry up and get the contract they want to fight the pirates--making this a three-way slugfest between religious extremists, pirates, and mercenaries--then the only missing piece would be the A-Team.  Or Vince McMahon.  He could turn this into a production the whole world could enjoy.

How (0.00 / 0)
much are they charging for the Pay Per View?

Now that's the kind of satire that this whole sad and sorry state of affairs cries out for. (0.00 / 0)

I think we all know where this is going: (0.00 / 0)
I don't get it... (4.00 / 2)
I would think that once these merchant ships saw the Jolly Roger flag flying on the pirate ships, they'd change course.

Starving fishermen find bigger catch... (0.00 / 0)
Global warming...for the lack of fish the world economy is challenged.

The ICU was able to 'contol' the pirates for a brief period while they were in charge of the failed state of Somalia's government for 6 mos in 2006.

The radical militant Islamic group is a branch of the ICU [Islamic Courts Union].

Meanwhile, the World's navies are concentrating in the shipping lanes Gulf to Gulf and the Indian Ocean.

US and NATO have moved in after seeking UN approval. Russia has moved a fleet causing speculation that they may re-establish a naval base in the area. India has secured berths for warships in Oman. Japan is considering changing its Constitution to send ships to fight the pirates. South Korea has sent a ship.

China's overt intervention remains speculative. They have invested high risk capital to 'plunder' Africa of its natural resources that they might move to protect.

One if by land (0.00 / 0)
It seems to be the plan as militants search Somali port for pirates.
