Join the RedState Army Strike Force

Erick Erickson, the editor of RedState, has just given us fodder to use for the rest of the year.  In an attempt at being politically savvy--and by telling himself that what they do is somehow akin to being a "soldier" in a "war"--Erickson has decided that conservatives need to field-organize like progressives.  And what better way to motivate the "troops" for activism than by inventing your own unit crest which, of course, replicates those worn by actual combatants in real wars?

This is the unit insignia of the U.S. Army's 75th Ranger Regiment:

And this is the unit insignia of the RedState Army's Strike Force:

Like many chickenhawks who struggle with what it means to be a man in the modern era, Erickson and the "soldiers" in his budding "Strike Force" have again tried to imitate serving in the military without actually having to don a uniform, pick up a weapon, or sacrifice much of anything at all.  However, by creating this make-believe world in which RedState activists are members of a military-like "Strike Force," they're actually quite a lot like the Dungeons and Dragons fans LARPers in the video below pretending to be wizards, basilisks, and gorgons.

So not only has RedState designed a military unit crest, but they've now painted themselves as hopeless dorks, lunging clumsily for political relevance with a ham-handed attempt at jumpstarting a field organization.

So I wish Erick and his Strike Force the best of luck in 2009.  May they successfully clear their objectives and sustain no casualties in the process.

(H/T to Colonel Joe for the tip and LT Nixon for the video.)

Damn. That's funny. (4.00 / 3)
The thing I never understand is those who are so "pro-military" and try to go out of their way to show this, but never bother to actually listen to what real soldiers are trying to tell them.  They "support the troops" and they display their yellow ribbons and pat you on the back - right up to the time that you say that we shouldn't be in Iraq.  Then suddenly, a lawyer from Macon, Georgia knows more that a soldier who has actually been and done.  It drives me nuts.

Give it a few years, you'll want to pull your hair out!!;c}

We've been living it for over 30years now. When I run up against these asswipes they start trying to tell me, and everyone else, What I Did In 'Nam, knowing only what they can find, by the fakes or deniers, who give them stories now online, and they keep giving the same damn debunked crap over and over thinking it somehow will eventually become the fact not the lies.

I used to give these people the benifit of doubt years ago and try to give them a lesson on world politics and geo- economics, thinking that they were just miss -informed. But iv'e come to the realization in 22 years in the army that, the kool aid is strong, and some people are just too stupid to argue with.  I unfortunatly have regressed to taking the attitude i now have, i just look at these people and say "you are a douch" and walk away. I believe i become more saddened by our society on a daily basis.

I think it is a combination of being mis-informed, and at the same time wanting to stay mis-informed.  Basically, "don't let your facts intrude on my reality."

I was an Air Force wife and medical officer corps reservist when St. Ronnie encouraged the God Boys to  run amok in the USAF and the ROTC programs started migrating south geographically.   By the time VoteVets came to be, I had been waiting for y'all for over 20 years.

Funny you should bring that up, how is it he got to be so lionised hell i remember people in his administration being sentenced for crimes and yet some of the same people were a part of the bush duex admin. and regan is held up as a prophet or somthing. I have some connections to the "school" of the americas and i can tell you honestly after going back to El Sal. in 06 we didnt do that part of the world any favors.  As for the god boys trust me they have the Army securely in thier sights right now.  I am currently in Iraq in an area where there are is a large population of christians you would be amazed how many times a week i hear the term "crusade" used by soldiers and locals.

Both the "Red State Strike Force" and the video have Monty Python written all over it. ("It's only a flesh wound...").

Seriously, tho, are these guys planning on sewing these unit crests/patches to their business suits or something? (I thought the snazzy new RS design was more evocative of 1st CAV's patch, given the shape).

 Thanks for the laugh.

Why do I foresee... (0.00 / 0)
...some jackball with the RS crest/pin/patch inflating its meaning into something a bit more "actual" military?

I am willing to bet that in an outfit like that, there's gotta be at least one poser who claims all sorts of gallantry...that ultimately boils down to getting washed out of Basic or AIT for a hangnail back in 1992 or something.

Side note: The fakers are everywhere! It's gonna get worse over the next 20 years, too! Yeah, it's a hot-button of mine, I'm always on BOLO for these bolos.

There's my $.02 for the day.

This is just to funny (4.00 / 2)
While I was reading this post all I could think about was the fact that I, along with many of my friends did this very same thing when we were children!  Our fathers were all active duty or veterans during other conflicts so it was only natural for us to pretend that we were soldiers to.  I can't count how many times that we dressed up in our father's old uniforms and played "war".  Playing "war" and tackle football were our favorite pastimes after school.  We came up with fictional units and patches just like Redstate, used pieces of wood for guns and used mud balls (snowballs in the winter) for hand grenades.

We were just boys and girls at the time and we knew it was only pretend.  For us, it was a fun game that we could all relate to because our parents were all part of the Army.  We knew we weren't real soldiers and couldn't have been no matter how badly we wanted to be.  We knew only bits and pieces of what it was actually like to be a service person and knew even less about actual warfare.  We knew nothing about the sacrifices or the high costs our parents paid back then.  We were after all only children.  That changed later when we grew up and each of us learned those lessons through our own military service.

Those people at Redstate do not have that excuse.  They are adults who can easily experience what they are pretending to be but are to chicken to actually follow through with it.

The RS unit crest (4.00 / 2)
I wouldn't be caught dead wearing that Redstate crest or being associated with it in any way.  Especially since I know that many at Redstate have never served in the military.  Heck, if someone is going to wear that then they might as well go all out and paint a yellow streak down their back to really show that they are a coward in my opinion.

creating a Republican Para-Military organization for impeding the Democratic agenda.

This is about charging assholes $10 for a fifty cent patch.
