While this is good news (0.00 / 0)
I am still concerned.  Will we simply transfer the remaining detainees to other countries, or will we have another gitmo somewhere else?  The basic concept is flawed from the beginning.    There is no reason we should be paying other countries so that we can run their prisons for them.

The video is a combination of three BBC News reports on Guantanamo from Dec. '08 to Jan '09, it's about 141/2 minutes long, the links to each individual video at their site found below.

In the bush Exit Speech 1-12-09

"The most urgent threat that he'll have to deal with and other presidents after him will have to deal with is an attack on our homeland," Bush said. "You know, I wish I could report that's not the case, but there's still an enemy out there that would like to inflict damage on America."

For once I agree with this incompetent, immoral, unrepentant little man, he's created tens of thousands that didn't exist before, who now wish this Country and It's Citizens Harm, "Mission Accomplished"!!

...maybe I should take the time and journalize a diary.  But it would have to be (uncommonly) well-researched, and that takes Lots of time.  But it may open some eyes.  In essence, I'm fed up with your incessant bitching about the torture issue.

Before you wet yourself, please be assured I don't condone "torture" as defined by the G. Conv.  And I'm not a Jack Bauer type.  And I'm certainly convinced that whatever "torture" you constantly write about is nowhere NEAR what happens in the Real World out there, historically and currently.  I have some faith in our country and its leaders, however humanly flawed, and I'm convinced that the relatively few (3?) times we used harsh methods against those that would slit your balls off is NOT the norm.  (Note: in my view, Abu Graib was an unrelated, pitiful anomaly)

You're right: torture sucks.  But America doesn't, and whatever mistakes we made (or not) is not in play now, except by those that would keep scratching the bloody scab day after day.

Torture Update..... (0.00 / 0)
I stand by my comments above to staro; however, in an unusual "timing" scenario, it was reported today that Qahtani (the wannabe 20th hijacker) was "tortured."
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28...

This is sad, and un-American, but 6 years ago our mentality was not as dulled as now regarding those that killed 3,000 civies in the Towers.  Was it wrong?  Yes.  Was it rare, in terms of the whole time period to the present day?  Yes.  Do a rare number of such occurrences over 6 years ago, and not commonplace now make America and the President a monster.  Fuck no.

Meanwhile, just another day in Iran: an adulterer gets stoned to death.  But hey......

How (0.00 / 0)
about for every story that the press runs on US torture, detainee abuse, war crimes, etc., they run a story on Saudi Arabia and terror financing? Or how about they launch a thorough investigation into Saudi ties with al Qaida?

[ Parent ]
I mean (0.00 / 0)
seriously, how low have we sunken when it is Politically correct to bad mouth our troops and leaders, whereas it is not politically correct to point out the obvious: That the Saudis are the number 1 source of terror funding worldwide, and may actually be much closer to al Qaida then we are meant to believe.

[ Parent ]
I see.... (0.00 / 0)
... Fred, that you're not a Saudi fan!  Don't blame you.  But, uh, why pick on the rest of the terror world when Bush/Cheney are more "politically correct" to hammer?

[ Parent ]
What can (0.00 / 0)
I say? In our current bizzaro world of political correctness, most every issue that actually matters is deemed politically incorrect.

[ Parent ]
Well (0.00 / 0)
by PC standards, at least the Saudis aren't into apartheid, racism, religious intolerance, slavery, and sexism. Oh wait.......
