Neo-Con Security "Expert" Ties Saddam to al Qaeda--Again

What's with these guys?  This has to be some sort of pathological condition I don't understand.  It's 2009 and neo-conservative think tank guys like Frank Gaffney are still going on Hardball and saying we had to invade Iraq because "they" attacked us on 9/11 and Saddam was working with bin Laden.  This is from yesterday's show:

Here's the transcript:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: If we don't know that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11--if we don't know that--and you say it's an open case, and if we were never able to prove that he had nuclear weapons, do you go to war against another country with the loss of lives and treasure of thousands of American lives and an unlimited number of Iraqis dead. . .Do you do something like that--do you go to war with another country when you don't have your case made.  You admit it's an open case.  I want to know the rules of engagement here.  When do you go to war, Frank?

FRANK GAFFNEY: Well, in this case, I said to you, in the immediate aftermath of the 3,000 Americans being slaughtered by people-some of whom had, in fact, collaborative relationships with Iraqi intelligence. . .

DAVID CORN: There we go again!  Who?  Who?  Who had a collaborative--Frank, stop right there and tell me who had a relationship.

GAFFNEY: You take pre-emptive action to prevent the kinds of attacks that we now know Saddam Hussein clearly had in mind with chemical and biological agents.

Remember, this is the same guy Chris Matthews "eviscerated" for the same thing back in December.

First, do you really believe that two men with ego's like bin laden and hussein could possible work togather. not a chance.
The facts have been confirmed by the 9/11 commision iraq had nothing to do 9/11. The Neo-cons think if they keeps saying Iraq and 9/11 that people will believe the lies they have peddle for 6 years. It is all about saving face.

That still talk like this.

Chances are this douche didn't have a son or daughter or brother or sister who went to that god forsaken sand pile.

The people who are the most vocal in opposition to the bullshit over there were ones who either had been to Iraq twice, three sometimes 4 times or had family members who got sent into Bush's meat grinder.

Are you going to watch the former veep on CNN, Sunday morning? (0.00 / 0)
I can just imagine what he'll have to say.

Oh, I just heard that the President made a call to King Abdullah in Saudi Arabia and I thought of you...and of what that conversation might have been about.

Actually I was thinking of someone else...sorry about that... (0.00 / 0)

To say that (0.00 / 0)
it is impossible Saddam and bin Laden would have never had a relationship is absolutely incorrect. Our "conventional wisdom" says no, but Arab politics don't play by our rules. Saddam has had working relationships with Islamists before. For that matter, it is entirely possible that Iran and AQ have worked together from time to time. However, I have seen no real evidence that Saddam and bin Laden were in on 9/11 together. Nor have I seen conclusive evidence that Saddam and AQ were actively collaborating in the lead up to OIF. I find collaboration between AQ types and Saddam possible, yet unproven. At the same time, I am over 95 percent certain that he had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.

If I wake up early enough (0.00 / 0)
and happen to be near a TV I might tune in for a few. But I bet I already know what he is going to say. As for King Abduallah, I really don't know what that one was about, but I can think of three things.

"Rehabilitation Program"-Bad Idea  http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/...

Saudi involvement in Israel-Palestinian peace process-Bad Idea

Encouraging reform in Saudi Arabia-Good Idea

[ Parent ]
Let's hope the call was about the latter... (0.00 / 0)
...and hope for the best.

As for your link...I think that diplomatic source wanted anonymity because of the STUPIDITY of the discussions!

You guys over looked the best (worst) part of the interview... (4.00 / 1)
This is one of those "WTF?!?!?!" moments.

GAFFNEY:  Well, as I said, he kept saying that he was going to try to get even against us for Desert Storm, so it wouldn't be unreasonable for people to conclude maybe that that's what he was doing.  There's also circumstantial evidence, not proven by any means, but nonetheless some pretty compelling circumstantial evidence of Saddam Hussein's Iraq being involved with the people who perpetrated both the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center and even the Oklahoma City bombing.

The video is all over the web, but here's the transcript: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29...
