(This is a great cause that everyone who has the means should consider donating to, and definitely attending if you'll be at Netroots Nation this year. As noted in TexDem's piece, last year Brandon, Alex and I along with many noted journalists, policy researches, congressional candidates, and people with general admiration for those in uniform assembled a massive amount of care packages to send to troops down range. TexDem is coordinating the effort again this year, let's show our support. - promoted by Richard Smith)

Some of you may remember NFTT from last year, for the rest here's the basics. We assembled 130 Care packages at Netroots Nation in Austin last August. Among those in the room were VetVoice's own Brandon Friedman, Richard Smith and Alex Horton. They can testify to it's success.

We sent some pretty premium product last year as well as the usual Care Package items. This year we want to focus on the premium and increase those products. Among those last year were; Mechanix gloves, gel insoles, phone cards, a small LED keyring flashlight, CDs, DVDs and books etc. This year we've dropped the books and sundries. We're told they get enough sundries etc. from home. And there is a better outlet for books. We want to use that space for more premium items.

I'm coming here to ask for your assistance in raising funds. Our goal this year is 300 Care Packages and $50,000.00 in cash or in-kind donations.

Please consider joining the  NFTT Facebook Group.   Invite your Facebook and non-Facebook friends.

If anyone wants to help us in our endeavor by writing a diary here or on another site, contact me via email. After the fold, you'll find the basic template for our fundraising diaries; if you want it html ready we can forward it to you, otherwise feel free to copy and paste the links yourself.

NETROOTS FOR THE TROOPS

Our goal this year is $50,000.00 in cash or in-kind donations. We are looking for only corporate in-kind donations this year. So if you know of corporate contact let Donnamarie, VeloVixen, or TexDem know. We won't be taking small in-kind donations due to the logistics nightmare it presents. Pittsburgh is not Austin and we have different house rules at the convention site.

You can DONATE HERE to contribute to this worthy cause.

  Important Note on Successful Donations

Please make note that the thank you screen following any donation will not reflect a donation to NFTT, but rather Netroots Nation. Rest assured your donation WILL be forwarded to NFTT. For a little more peace of mind, you can note that the donation is intended for Netroots For The Troops in the comment section when you submit your contribution.

   Books for Soldiers

The question has come up several times, what about books? And the answer is, books are great! It's just that other organizations are more specialized in the collection and distribution of books to Iraq and Afghanistan. If you are interested in sending books, please consider checking out the Books for Soldiers Website. It is run by DKos's very own Stormbear and is a great resource for giving.
