If you came here from an external link, the liveblog for November 6th continues here.

Not many details yet, but here's what we know so far:

At least seven people are dead and 12 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, the base's public affairs office told NBC News on Thursday.

The official would not give his name nor additional details. It was unknown whether victims are soldiers or civilians. One gunman was reportedly in custody and another was on the loose, NBC News said. A third shooter may be involved, according to NBC News affiliate KCEN, which said the person had opened fire on the SWAT team at the base.

KCEN in Waco reported that the second suspect may be holed up in a building on the post. A congressman told MSNBC that a graduation ceremony may have been taking place at the time of the shooting.

A few more details here:

Ford Hood spokesman Sgt. Tim Volkert told the Express-News that seven people were killed in a shooting at about 1:30 p.m. in the area near the Howze theater and the base's readiness center. Both buildings are next to each other.

We'll keep you updated is information becomes available.

UPDATE 1552 EST: MSNBC reporting that the incident is "all military", shooters and victims. Caveats that this is early and unverified.

UPDATE 1602 EST: Injured number increased to 20. At least three different shooting areas with possible three different shooters in military uniforms. One suspect in late 30s in custody.

UPDATE 1613 EST: Senator Kay Bailey Huchison of Texas states on MSNBC that one gunman was wounded by military police. Possible that there are only two gunman, both may be in custody. Senator states she was told 30 wounded.

UPDATE 1622 EST:"Effective immediately, Fort Hood is closed. Organizations/units are instructed to execute a 100 percent accountability of all personnel."

"Fort Hood was asking people on post to stay away from windows, CNN affiliate KXXV said. The incident took place at the sports dome, now known as the soldier readiness area, the station reported."

UPDATE 1628 EST: KCEN-TV in Waco, Texas is reporting that one suspect was wearing military uniform with Major's rank.

UPDATE 1630 EST: Local news reporting shots fired at a Soldier's residence.

UPDATE 1642 EST: Here is the live feed from KCEN in Killeen, TX.

UPDATE 1643 EST: Reports of shots fired at Kouma Village and Liberty Village on Fort Hood.

UPDATE 1646 EST: 500 military personnel mustered to secure Fort Hood facilities. One shooting may have occurred at a graduation ceremony. Apprehended individual apparently a military officer.

UPDATE 1648 EST: KCEN reporting deathtoll increased to 9. Captured shooter an Army Major.

UPDATE 1652 EST: Official Fort Hood Press Briefing: One shooter killed. 12 Dead, 31 wounded.

UPDATE 1653 EST: Official Fort Hood Press Briefing: Shooter was a Soldier. Two other suspects, also shooters, have been apprehended.

UPDATE 1657 EST: Official Fort Hood Press Briefing: Shooter carried two handguns.

UPDATE 1705 EST: President Obama: "My immediate thoughts and prayers are with the wounded and the fallen."

UPDATE 1740 EST: Shooter identified as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

UPDATE 1806 EST: CNN reports MAJ Hasan was a "U.S. Army mental health professional".

UPDATE 1816 EST: Temple, TX hospital which has some of the victims is requesting blood donations. If you are in the area, please consider giving blood.

UPDATE 1820 EST: CBS Reports that MAJ Hasan was an Army Psychiatrist licensed in Silver Springs, MD. Name is actually Nidal Malik Hasan.

UPDATE 1842 EST: First photo released of MAJ Hasan:

UPDATE 1848 EST: What news source is everyone watching? CNN is intolerable.

UPDATE 1857 EST: MSNBC reports that two suspects previously detained have been released and another detained. Information comes from Rep. John Carter (R-TX).

UPDATE 1857 EST: One of the wounded has died, bringing the death toll to 13.

UPDATE 1943 EST: MAJ Hasan's cousin, Nader Hasan was just on Fox News and stated MAJ Hasan had always been a Muslim and was not a convert, grew up in America, never violent, never involved with militant Islam, played basketball in high school, but was constantly harassed since entering military for his Middle East heritage and had been trying to get out of military as result.

UPDATE 1948 EST: ABC reports that MAJ Hasan had participated in no overseas deployments.

UPDATE 1950 EST: ABC has learned MAJ Hasan had not deployed. Fox News has learned he was not a militant muslim. These stories aren't interesting however, so it will probably be a while before we here what is probably the truth: That MAJ Hasan was just a troubled individual who went nuts, maybe as a result of some harassment but no harassment is reason enough for something like this. Until then, enjoy Kay Bailey Hutchison talking about "infiltration" and CNN's perpetual interview with a random psychiatrist.

UPDATE 2000 EST: Lockdown at Fort hood has been lifted.

UPDATE 2235 EST: CNN reports that MAJ Hasan was wounded multiple times but is alive.

UPDATE 0637 EST: CNN reports that the FBI has raided MAJ Hasan's apartment in Killeen, Texas.

UPDATE 0748 EST: MAJ Hasan is in stable condition and on a ventilator at a local hospital. He had no reports of poor performance while at Fort Hood. Injured number updated to 28.

Now they are saying 20 wounded and 4 shooters... (0.00 / 0)
I'm so in tears and send my thoughts and prayers to Ft Hood.

Shooters in Uniform but not confirmed Military.

I worked for CID as an investigator at Fort Hood for two years. (0.00 / 0)
From 2000-2002.  During that time we had several shootings, but nothing of this magnitude.  My heart goes out to the victims' families, as well as to the MP's and their families.

When I was there, we generally had a body about once a month.  Sometimes it was a shooting, or a beating, or a strangulation.  Many times it was suicide.  But the main point, is that they were always different.  I remember a female MP who was killed by a jealous boyfriend.  I remember one who took his girlfriend hostage then shot himself in front of the MP's.  No two were the same.

Unfortunately, these things happen.  This is not confined to just military bases either, lest anyone think that the military is just a bunch of crazies.  Ask any small town sheriff, there is plenty of drama in the civilian world as well.  I do not know what motivated these shooters today.  I can only hope that this is like all other similar incidents I've seen, and it is just an isolated incident.

How Very Sad... (0.00 / 0)
My prayers go out to the families of Ft. Hood.

MSNBC.... (0.00 / 0)
but am totally turned off by all the speculation.

Sounds like the sick MF shooter got his medical degree on the Military dime, too.

While Many Will Use 'MF Shooter' and Worse (4.00 / 1)
That medical degree he got, as you say on the Military Dime, made him a psychiatrist who was working with TBI and PTSD patients at Walter Reed and apparently was good enough in what he did to get the promotion to Major earlier this year!!

What ever his motives, and that may never be known but widely spun, he was working with extreme trauma cases, especially at Reed, or so reported, and he is just one more, in some already tragic events, that will be part of the 'Blowback' from these recent years!!

I normally have no use for FOX but (0.00 / 0)
Shep Smith just interviewed cousin of Maj. Hasan and it was absolutely riveting. Cousin said Hasan had expressed a lot of displeasure with returning to the war, was experiencing harassment, was working with a lawyer to resolve issues and even attempted to buy out of his commitment to the military.

conflicting reports as usual; time will tell (0.00 / 0)

Hasan had no prior overseas deployments, a Pentagon official told ABC News.

I missed the first of that interview (0.00 / 0)
But I thought the cousin said he had deployed to Iraq. Reports are flying around, so like you said time will tell. Here's what the AP is saying now:

Military officials say the suspected shooter at Fort Hood was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to the Texas base in July.

The officials had access to Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan's military record. They said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because military records are confidential.

The Virginia-born soldier was single with no children. He was 39 years old.

He is a graduate of Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. At Walter Reed, he did his internship, residency and a fellowship.

And This (0.00 / 0)
They said he received a poor performance evaluation while at Walter Reed.

Was why and how he was just promoted earlier this year, according to numerous reports. Let alone there for six years and apparently with orders to deploy to Iraq.

I don't think so, until more comes out!

So shameful (0.00 / 0)
This is just utterly crazy and shameful. If this guy is indeed the shooter then there's a huge and sad irony in him being a psychiatrist.
