They apparently put a muzzle on her speaking while on the base, just to those in the book store getting the sigs, according to recent reports. Smart move but as a private citizen this book signing, nor others, shouldn't have been allowed on base, not if we're to believe we live in that new world order after 9/11 especially.

PX's have book signings all the time (0.00 / 0)

I don't think it was such a wrong move to allow her to have book signing on base. In theory, the signing would increase sales at the PX which are directly reinvested into the military community. Not such a bad thing.

Soldiers don't serve to serve a political ideology, they serve the Country and to Defend the Constitution!!

And like I said, in this New World, everything changed supposedly, no book signings should be allowed on base, theirs plenty of venues off base for such activities!

There'd be even More Screaming about this policy if it was a, lets say, Michael Moore who was there today, and don't say there wouldn't!

... what's your point, Smith?  Seriously, what are you trying to say that's of any worth to us as veterans and active duty types by demeaning someone who's done you no wrong?  If it just makes you feel better to whack the mole (more likely), I'll buy that.  No worries then.

As I wrote elsewhere, all Ft Hood royalty sales will go to the shooting victims there.  Perhaps some sort of similar thing at Bragg, maybe not.  In any case, you might wish for a good sales number at the Hood, right?

I read through the Seattle-pi article and blogs.  Sounds a lot like what's happening in most NG locales.  I have a very close relative in NCCANG who sings the same tune about benefits, treatment, etc.  Bad news.  But this particular statement says a lot:

The Alaska Governor is not the "Commander-in-Chief" of the Guard. The Guard has been nationalized for federal service and is under the sole control of the Department of Defense. Palin has absolutely no role in any part of the operations of the Alaska National Guard. The Guard veterans returning to Alaska are being treated the same as all the rest of the veterans...

Well?

But no prob: the current admin will fix all this...

Sorry, I didn't realize it was my responsibility to sort out State vs Federal relationships on the NG, esp in terms of "care given" to the AKNG.  Dang me!  I thought the comment that the Gov has no operational (and logistic) responsibilities was enough.

Enough already?  I understand you dislike her immensely, and I get it.  Hell, the only reason I stick up for her is to spead a little fairness around.  I'm not into about her book or ambitions.

Oh.... the Bragg signing was a big hit.  Your comment above about her sending a check instead [Oh Plz] wouldn't have cut it: the people wanted the face-to-face.

How (or if) equipment replacement happens within the NG/Reserve units.  Most of these units either leave or lose heavy equipment while on deployment.  This same gear is used by the states for road construction, bridges, etc.  Once they rotate back to the US, this gear is lost.  To replace it all would be extremely expensive.  Like I said, I'm still waiting to see what happens.

Good point on the equipment loss, and I don't know the "financial responsibility" angle on that.  I know that the NCCANG hasn't experienced that problem, likely because most of their hardware is proprietary Comm stuff.  Yes, they do lose a few items, as you say, but the DOD picks up the tab for that!  Slick.

Here's the latest list that I've seen about equipment "left" in the guard. (0.00 / 0)

And I know that in the case of the IA Guard they deployed the newest equipment and left the marginal stuff at home. Would assume that that was the general rule.

From listening to the AS Readiness hearings the Feds are the ones who 'budget' for the guard. I recall that the last one that I listened to the need to reequip was not met with testimony that units did not have adequate, update equipment to train with.

Yeah, a good link (USA Today).   Interesting how some states report their readiness with XX percent equipment available while others are all over the readiness graphs with more/less percentage.  (you did follow that, right!?)  But overall, looks good, but there will be huge replacement costs later derived for hdwe consumed in the Middle East.

The commander at Ft Bragg acknowledged that Sarah was in a "political" gray area concerning base rules and placed limits on her visit.

Her father was out side with the tour bus discussing political views including the way Obama is handling the war while accepting donations for Palin's "political action committee" [PAC]. Hmmm?
