When 18 Americans are killed in Iraq during a four-day span, we are experiencing something other than progress.  While all eyes have been on General Petraeus in Washington this week, U.S. troops have experienced the deadliest four days in Iraq since last summer.

One of those... (0.00 / 0)
...was a guy who was in my old brigade. He then went to another NCARNG MP unit for this tour.

Didn't know the guy personally, but it still hit close to home.

While the politics of the situation are relevant (0.00 / 0)
they become a convenient smoke screen for these awful realities. Casualty officers are being deployed around the country this week to give mothers the worst news of their life.
We must try to keep America focused on the sacrifice...and, perhaps, residually our presidential candidates.

God bless these warriors (0.00 / 0)
and comfort their families.  There is no greater sacrifice.

Shi'ite happens man... (0.00 / 0)
...most of these casualties are in Baghdad.  The messaging from Sistani out of Najaf about disbanding the Mahdi Army is really ambiguous and still in question.  I hope this doesn't go on for long.

Diary request! (0.00 / 0)
This is something I would like to know more about, if you don't mind.  tks

....I'll try and get something this weekend.  Of course I'm no expert and it's exceedingly complex.

Two Army officers killed in Green Zone mortar attack (0.00 / 0)
Very bad news, we lost a colonel and a major in a recent mortar attack, among the highest-ranking American casualties in Iraq.  The colonel told his family he was safe in the Green Zone, but they could tell he was worried lately.

I would say the Green Zone... (0.00 / 0)
...is safer than most places in Iraq, but that's pretty relative.

Must I say it again? (0.00 / 0)
This means we're winning.

And yeah, I noticed the Col and Major deaths too .  . . unfortunately it's often only when top ranking officers get killed does the top brass take notice.  20 year old PFC's and SPC's are a dime a dozen.
